I've long suspected Rowan Cantuar of wanting to disestablish the Church of England, and judging by the press reactions today (about half way down the link), he may be well on his way to that goal.
Most insightful commentary is from a former occupant of the see, Archbishop Cranmer, while Matt Sinclair completely dissects what Cantuar actually said and finds that the objection, "Oh well, this is misreported, when you look at what he actually said..." holds no water. Warning: Matt uses language which would have been familiar to the Anglo-Saxon Church...
